"The EU is at your side, the Parliament I preside over is your ally". So said Europarliament president Roberta Metsola in her speech at the assembly of Confindustria. "We are on the side of industry, of hard-working families who depend on the jobs you create, on the side of those who are ready to take risks and want to see Europe grow and get stronger. The EU must be there to make things easier and more agile, it must break down barriers, not raise obstacles, offer solutions, not become part of the problem itself."
Faced with the demands of European citizens, 'our response must be a Europe that does not hold back, that risks and innovates, but supports. A more flexible Europe. A Europe that puts the real economy back at the centre, that unlocks private investment and builds a truly integrated capital market. A Europe that invests in people, that trains workers in line with the real needs of the production system to support industrial transition to curb the brain drain,' Metsola continued, adding that we need 'a Europe where success stories and not caps stuck to plastic bottles are the symbol of European priorities, where people should not feel guilty for wanting to drive a car, where they have no choice and in Europe it must be possible to take the risk of making mistakes, failing, starting again and again'. Not least because, he added, 'citizens do not ask too much from Europe, they ask for economic certainty, a stable job, the possibility to grow their own business, young people want to be able to afford a house, they ask for simplification, they want systems that work and are understandable, they ask for security, they want their children to be able to walk down the street without fear and they want to know that Europe is protecting them and they ask for leadership, with a vision, who call things by their name, not trapped in an incomprehensible bureaucratic language and capable of making useful and sensible decisions'.
"I feel a responsibility to promote a change of mentality in the EU"
."As President of the European Parliament together with all MEPs here present, I feel the responsibility to promote a change of mentality". So said Europarliament president Roberta Metsola in her speech at the Confindustria assembly. "We have seen an excessive increase in bureaucracy that has undermined investor confidence and complicated daily work. We have seen measures with great media impact but short-lived that have dented our competitiveness. I felt it necessary to tell you this but I still want to remain optimistic,' he continued, stressing that 'our priority is to bring Europe closer to the citizens we represent, to families and to industry. Bringing Europe closer to the territories is also what drives the mission of your representative in the European Commission, Raffaele Fitto. It is our duty to respond concretely and stimulate economic growth' for example by 'following up on your national recovery and resilience plan'.
"Common-sense solutions from Meloni, keeps Italy at the heart of European decisions"
."I would like to pay special recognition to the leadership of President Meloni, for helping to keep Italy at the centre of European decisions and for insisting on common-sense solutions". This was said by the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, speaking at the National Assembly of Confindustria, currently taking place in Bologna. Metsola also thanked Meloni 'for something else, no less important, for her friendship and frankness.
