Confindustria Sardegna: 'Ensuring stable connections with Corsica'
An appeal by Confindustria Sardegna, which after the stop, for technical reasons and now withdrawn, to the connections between Santa Teresa Gallura and Bonifacio, is calling for long-term action.
Government and regional authorities must intervene immediately to 'guarantee in a structural manner' the connections between Sardinia and Corsica and prevent the service from being suspended as has happened in recent days. Launching the appeal is Confindustria Sardegna which, after the stop, for technical reasons, to the connections between Santa Teresa Gallura and Bonifacio, is calling for long-term intervention. Not least because the situation is now resolving itself and as of today, 6 February 2026, the connection is restored.
The technical reasons
Everything is linked to the management of the connections that are operated by two companies: Ichnusa Lines and Moby with the ship Bunifazziu. "As part of the procedure for jointly entrusting the service between Santa Teresa and Bonifacio, the period from 16 January to 31 March would have been up to Ichnusa Lines," Moby said in a note announcing the reactivation of the service with its ship. "The latter, encountering delays in its scheduled maintenance period, asked Moby to take over the service for the period under their responsibility. Unfortunately, the Bunifazziu ferry, which was due to carry out its scheduled annual maintenance during this period, had a pressing deadline in the periodic overhaul of its life-saving equipment, so it was not immediately available'.
Connections resume
Not only: "Moby, with a view to guaranteeing the service in any case and to supporting Icnhusa Lines, immediately prepared the motor vessel Giraglia, which was also laid up for scheduled maintenance, but - continues the blue whale company - unfortunately during the work it encountered some prescriptions from the French authorities that are being resolved. Problem solved, however, with the Bunifazziu's entry back into the sea.
The repercussions
"The stoppage of races has produced serious economic and organisational repercussions, compromising essential trade and jeopardising the operational continuity of numerous productive activities," Confindustria emphasises. "A situation that cannot be considered episodic or unpredictable, but which highlights structural criticalities in the planning and management of maritime connections.
For the association that brings together industrialists, it is 'unacceptable that in 2026, a fundamental infrastructure link between two European territories should be subject to frequent disruptions, delays and additional costs that are increasingly unbearable for companies and workers'. Precisely to make up for this shortcoming, in the past few days, companies and workers have 'been forced to resort to makeshift means to cross the Bocche di Bonifacio'.
