Italia-Palestine Cooperation: Cimea Regional Office in the Middle East is established
Among the first initiatives in the field is the issuing of micro-credentials for Palestinian students
Italian academic cooperation in the Palestinian Territories takes a first concrete step through the collaboration between the Centre for Information on Mobility and Academic Equivalences (Cimea) and An-Najah National University, one of the main Palestinian universities. The initiative aims to create new educational opportunities for Palestinian students and to strengthen the presence of the Italia university system in the area.
The project includes the establishment of the Cimea Regional Office for the Middle East, based at the Palestinian university, with the aim of serving the entire region through advanced training activities, international academic cooperation and the development of innovative tools for higher education. Among the first initiatives is the issuing of micro-credentials for Palestinian students.
These are digital certifications that enable the attestation of specific skills through short and flexible training paths. In this activity, Cimea provides the certification system and technical infrastructure, while the Palestinian university develops the academic and training content. The initiative aims to support the training of innovative and professional skills useful for the reconstruction and development processes in the Palestinian territory.
Framework Agreement
The opening of the regional office is part of a framework agreement signed between the two institutions, aimed at strengthening cooperation in the fields of research, training, exchange of expertise, internationalisation, recognition of qualifications, digital innovation and the fight against academic fraud. The ultimate goal is to create a platform for institutional cooperation aimed at building new opportunities for students, researchers and institutions in the entire Middle East region.
In line with Minister Bernini's words
The agreement is a concrete sign of Italia's commitment to strengthening university cooperation in the Palestinian Territories and progressively expanding the presence of the Italian academic system in the area. A path that also looks towards the objective indicated by Minister Anna Maria Bernini during the last edition of the Festival of Economics in Trento: to set up, together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Civil Defence, an Italian university in Gaza.
