As of 1 October, Pierluigi Fusco Girard, 42, is the new CEO of Cotonificio Albini, a historic textile company in the Bergamo district and European leader in the shirting textile sector. He takes over from Fabio Tamburini, who had led the company after the sudden death of ceo Silvio Albini in 2018.
Born and raised in Naples, Fusco Girard embarked on a path that led him to develop a distinguished managerial career in the textile industry. After graduating from university, he moved to different Italian regions for work, eventually settling in the Veneto and Lombardy regions when he joined the Marzotto Group, where he held important positions of responsibility. In the Marzotto Group, he worked in the segments of linen and hemp yarns and fabrics, as well as cotton and velvet fabrics, taking on key roles, including CEO of Marzotto Lab fashion and Linificio e Canapificio Nazionale. He also held the position of Group Innovation Manager, with the aim of combining the company's centuries-old tradition with the most advanced technologies.
In 2018, under his leadership, the Linificio e Canapificio Nazionale relaunched the cultivation of flax in the province of Bergamo - in Astino - through a memorandum of understanding that revived an agricultural tradition that had disappeared after World War II. In 2023, the company turned 150 years and achievedB Corp status. For his commitment to environmental and social sustainability and his managerial skills, in 2020 Fusco Girard was recognised by Federmanager as one of the 10 best young Italian managers within the 'Young Manager - Code Green' award, reserved for professionals under 44 and promoted by the Federmanager Young Group.
"Pierluigi Fusco Girard was chosen for this role because of his deep commercial and marketing knowledge, as well as his experience in textile production issues," commented Stefano Albini, President of Cotonificio Albini. We are confident that his vision and skills will help guide the company towards a future of sustainable growth and innovation'.
Cotonificio Albini, based in Albino, in the province of Bergamo, was founded in 1876 by Giovanni Albini and is still controlled by the family. Over the years it has also launched its own brands (Albini 1876, Albini Donna, Albiate 1830) and taken over three historic British brands, Thomas Mason, David & John Anderson and Ashton Shirting. It has also launched the think tank Albini_Next, dedicated to research and innovation in textiles, and is investing in the Italian cotton supply chain with its yarn division Ica Yarns. In 2023 it had a turnover of 178 million euro, with exports at 73%.
