Counterterrorism, warnings on US and Israeli hotspots

Diplomatic offices, consulates, places of worship, cultural centres. In just a few hours, the map of US, Israeli and Iranian 'sensitive points' in Italia has returned under a tighter lens: more men, more means, more attention. The order was triggered by an 'urgent circular' issued by Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi on Saturday morning as US and Israeli missiles hammered Tehran.

It is an increase of the anti-terrorist device that does not stem from a specific signal intercepted on the national territory. There is, at present, no concrete alarm registered in Italia. But precisely in high-intensity crises, the rule is to reduce uncertainty: increase visibility and control, strengthen the garrisons, make the vigilance network denser where the exposure is greater. It is a choice of method, rather than a reaction to an episode: raise the threshold before the tension does.

From Rome to Milan, to the country's major centres, the alert was issued after a preliminary meeting at the Viminale between Piantedosi and Police Chief Vittorio Pisani. An operational step, even before the political one: realigning priorities, updating the security posture, indicating to the territorial offices what should be armoured and how. Security levels were raised and information activities by the Digos were also implemented.

In the crosshairs are not only symbolic targets and the most exposed locations - embassies, consulates, religious structures and cultural centres that can be traced back to the United States of America, Israel and elsewhere - but also those that support intervention in the field: patrols, controls, dynamic garrisons, especially in areas of high fundamentalist intensity, where the attacks on Iran may have triggered new sentiments against the West, confirms a source close to the dossier.

In fact, the call for maximum vigilance also concerns the operative structures of emergency intervention throughout the territory. For this reason, in the same hours, the C.a.s.a., the Committee of strategic anti-terrorism analysis met urgently: the crisis table presided over by the Central Direction of the Prevention Police, which brings together all the principal articulations of the security - Carabinieri, Guardia di Finanza, Police - and the Information System for the security, with Dis, Aisi and Aise. It is there that data has been crossed, signals have been verified and useful information has been lined up to evaluate if and where in Italia the Iranian escalation could produce chain effects.
