Ua constant and progressive rise. Thus, a few weeks ago Courmayeur became a founding member of the Association of the Territories of Excellence together with Capri, Cortina d'Ampezzo, Madonna di Campiglio and Porto Cervo, after having joined the "Altagamma International Honorary Council" in 2022. Thus was born, most likely for the first time in Italy, a network that binds and connects a number of brands, tourist destinations known and appreciated worldwide that represent Italy and the Italian lifestyle.
"We are working together with and as Territories of Altagamma aiming at excellence, to represent the best of Italy and its hospitality," explains Roberto Rota, Mayor of Courmayeur. "We have been working on this project for a year, certainly not easy, but challenging: finding a dialogue between territories with different but in fact similar experiences generates contamination, opportunities, mutual stimuli.
Courmayeur is the only tourist destination of excellence in the North-West to which Portofino, another 'Territory of Altagamma', will probably be added at a later date. Matteo Lunelli, president of Altagamma, thus summarises the objective of the Territories of Excellence association for "a partnership that empowers each member and facilitates the promotion of high-end tourism that can have the greatest impact in terms of direct and indirect induced effects on our economy," Lunelli emphasises. It is precisely the Territories of Excellence that can be an example and a driving force for an upward repositioning of tourism in our country.
The five destinations will develop initiatives, events and marketing actions. In 2025, they will start with a major international event, and at a later stage tourist circuits will be created to unite the territories. A team game that will also be replicated in the territory. "In order to create new synergies, we are trying to open a dialogue between the managers of the cableways and those of the most important hotels - anticipates Roberto Rota, mayor of Courmayeur -. For seven years we have been working on a place branding process. Then it is up to the private sector to design and offer tourist products, and in synergy with the public they will be promoted'.
Next summer "Le Géant", a Castello Sgr property managed through the Vita company with 47 luxury service apartments under the Marriott Bonvoy brand, will open in Courmayeur. "It will be the first structure in Courmayeur with a service apartment offering the utmost comfort with spa and gym, parking, and a complete food and beverage offer," says Giampiero Schiavo, Managing Director of Castello Sgr. "We are aiming at international customers thanks to our collaboration with Marriott. This is not the destination's only major tourism project. Work is underway on another service apartment complex with 60 units in addition to the former Hotel Miramonti project, which will be a mix of hotel, Rta and traditional flats, while the Hotel Royal is to be renovated.
