(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor)- The 2025 accounts in chiaroscuro, due to non-recurring charges linked in particular to the first consolidation of the stake in Banco Bpm , penalised stocks Credit Agricole, which traded lower on the Paris Stock Exchange.
La Banque Verte announced that it closed the last financial year with a net profit up slightly (+1.3%) to 8.75 billion. Net interest and other banking income reached a record level of EUR 39.56 billion, an increase of 3.9% compared to 2024. Fourth-quarter profit, on the other hand, fell 23.9% year-on-year to EUR 1.63bn, affected by the EUR 607m impact of Banco Bpm. For 2025, the institution is proposing a ddividend up 3% to €1.13 per share. On the other hand, the results of the asset gathering division, which brings together asset and wealth management and insurance, were better than expected, driven by the numbers ofAmundi. The subsidiary posted a new record of 2.380 billion funds under management in 2025, even though net profit was affected by the extraordinary tax on large companies in France. Funds under management by the French group increased by 6% year-on-year, thanks in particular to 'record' net inflows of EUR 88 billion despite outflows of EUR 16 billion from the Unicredit network (of which 4 in the fourth quarter).
Turning to Banco Bpm, the bank's top management explained that the consolidation of the stake shelters the balance sheet from share price volatility and that from here on in, the expectation is for a positive contribution to group profit of around EUR 100 million per quarter. CEO Olivier Gavalda then effectively 'reserved' three seats on the Piazza Meda board of directors, emphasising that the French institution expects to have representation proportional to its shareholding and left himself a free hand on the future of the stake. 'We will see in due course whether it is in our interest to increase our stake in Banco Bpm,' he concluded. 'At the moment it is not a relevant issue for the Credit Agricole group.
