Defence: Crosetto confirms 8.9 billion in Safe funds; the project is moving forward

(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - The funds that Italia has requested from the EU in the form of loans under the SAFE programme, totalling 8.9 billion, “have been confirmed” and “are going ahead”. This was stated by the Minister of Defence, Guido Crosetto, in the Senate at the end of his hearing before the Foreign Affairs and Defence Committee. “The decision has been made; we have informed the EU. It is, in short, a technical matter,” he added. The minister did not comment on the timeframe required to finalise the loan agreement and the release of the first tranche, which would amount to 15 per cent of the total.
