Cryptocurrencies: Bitcoin falls by 2.34 per cent following a cyberattack on Binance
(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Bitcoin has fallen sharply, dropping 2.34% to $77,000. This follows an announcement by the cryptocurrency exchange Binance, which revealed it had been the victim of a serious cyberattack, with losses estimated at around $6.3 billion. Half of the funds have been frozen to prevent large-scale theft. Binance posted several messages on its X platform, initially assuring users that all funds deposited by customers on its site were ‘absolutely safe’, before announcing shortly afterwards that it would cover ‘all losses’. It also announced that it had suspended trading in certain products. Ethereum is also down, falling by 3.35 per cent to $2,233.
