Key points
Better safe than sorry. This is how the Customs and Monopolies Agency's modus operandi on e-commerce can be summarised. In 2025, in fact, checks on online trade jumped by 26.2 per cent to 57,227. At the same time, declarations increased by 17% (104 million).
The data were presented during the opening day of the Adm's General Assembly in Palazzo Wedekind, Rome. On this subject, Director Roberto Alesse explained that 'the Agency has chosen not to 'chase' risk but to anticipate it'.
"ecommerce requires high attention"
The e-commerce phenomenon, according to Alesse, amplifies factors such as the protection of the interests of the Treasury and the community, the need for certainty and simplification for operators and citizens, and the need to prevent and combat illegal conduct. Therefore, 'given its vertiginous growth, it requires a high level of attention in terms of supervision and control'.
