Cwt Italia has withdrawn the 190 collective redundancies
The multinational has sent a letter to the trade unions in which it has indicated its willingness to enter into negotiations to manage the redundancies in a different way. Talks are set to resume on 30 October
Cwt Italia has agreed to withdraw the collective redundancy procedure affecting 190 workers, which was initiated on 4 October. Filcams, Fisascat and Uiltucs explain in a statement that the multinational has indicated its willingness to enter into new discussions to identify mutually agreed solutions to address the organisational restructuring necessary for the company’s economic sustainability.
For the trade unions, this stance profoundly alters the context in which the dispute has unfolded to date. The next meeting has been scheduled for 30 October, but today’s meeting – whilst not a final resolution – is an important milestone for the workers’ future employment prospects, as it will lead to a different approach to redundancies, albeit within a highly complex context.
The trade unions reiterate their call for transparency regarding the effects of the takeover by Amex GBT and the role of the joint venture with Uvet, and for discussions on the reorganisation at group level. For workers’ representatives, the job cuts linked to the ongoing reorganisation processes, technological changes and the increasingly widespread use of automation and artificial intelligence remain unacceptable.
