From Grignolino to truffles: a journey through the culture and flavours of the Alessandria area
Food and wine, the countryside and villages waiting to be discovered are at the heart of “Le Vie del Gusto”, the project that brings together Gran Monferrato, Alto Monferrato, Strada Derthona and Gavi.
‘A region that deserves to be visited and experienced at a leisurely pace, so as to fully appreciate its history, beauty, wellness offerings and quality of life.’ This is how Paolo Arrobbio, president of the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Alessandria, describes the south-eastern province of Piedmont, which stretches from the plain of farmland and rice paddies, the hills covered in vineyards and hazelnut groves, and the Apennine regions. It is precisely with this aim in mind that ‘Le Vie del Gusto’ was launched, a project designed to promote the food and wine, cultural and tourist heritage of four areas within the province: Gran Monferrato, Alto Monferrato, Strada Derthona and Gavi.
The aim is to bring together producers, restaurateurs, tourism operators and institutions to promote local specialities, attract new visitors and create opportunities for economic development. In this way, the region’s culinary heritage becomes a vehicle for the all-round promotion of the area, showcasing not only the products – from truffles to local wines – but also the places and traditions from which they originate.
The project took centre stage at an evening event for 150 guests organised in Milan in October, featuring a tasting of dishes and flavours from the four regions involved, and further events are planned for the coming months. The aim is to take tourists beyond simply tasting the food, and help them discover the villages, landscapes and many points of interest in this region.
