As expected, 'Io Capitano' triumphed at the David di Donatello Awards: Matteo Garrone's film won the two most important awards of the ceremony, those for Best Film and Best Director. In addition to the two main statuettes, five other Davids arrived for "Io Capitano": Best Producer, Best Visual Effects, Best Sound, Best Cinematographer and Best Editing.
A great success for a film that began its journey at the last Venice Film Festival, where the Roman author had won the Silver Lion for Best Director.

69th edition

.

Conducted by Carlo Conti and Alessia Marcuzzi, the ceremony of the 69th edition of the 'Oscars of Italian Cinema' opened with a great homage to Federico Fellini, thanks to a choreography by Luca Tommassini, followed by Mahmood's performance with 'Tuta gold', a song presented at this year's Sanremo Festival.Lucia Borgonzoni, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Culture, took the stage to re-launch Cinema Revolution, after last year's excellent results: an initiative in favour of theatres that will run from 9 June to 19 September, in which the cost of tickets for Italian and European films will be €3.50.

Tomorrow and Palazzina Laf

Also a great success for 'C'è ancora domani', the blockbuster film, Paola Cortellesi's directorial debut, scored six statuettes out of a record 19 nominations for a debut film.

Paola Cortellesi won personally as Best Debut Director and Best Leading Actress, but 'C'è ancora domani' also triumphed for Best Original Screenplay, Best Supporting Actress (Emanuela Fanelli), the David Giovani and won the previously announced David of the Spectator.

The two awards for male performers both went to the film 'Palazzina Laf': Michele Riondino, also director of this fine, committed film, won as best leading actor, while Elio Germano lifted the David di Donatello as best supporting actor.

Other prizes

.

The splendid 'Kidnapped' - our favourite of the nominees - won for best non-original screenplay, but also for best set design, best hairstyle, best make-up and best costumes.

Diodato lifted the David for Best Original Song with the song 'La mia terra' for the film 'Palazzina Laf'. Subsonica, on the other hand, won the David for best composer for their soundtrack in Stefano Sollima's 'Adagio'.

He won as best documentary 'Laggiù qualcuno mi ama', a film by Mario Martone dedicated to the cinema and art of Massimo Troisi.

The most moving moments of a ceremony that lived up to its name in alternating phases were those of the special prizes, already widely announced but nevertheless capable of touching deep chords: in this sense, one can only start by mentioning the Special David awarded to Vincenzo Mollica, which moved the audience in the hall and the spectators at home.Afterwards, a giant of music like Giorgio Moroder raised a well-deserved David for Lifetime Achievement, which enriched his trophy cabinet: among the most significant recognitions we must mention the three Oscars, one for best soundtrack ("Midnight Escape") and two for best original song (for "Flashdance" and for "Top Gun"). To celebrate it at its best, Giorgia sang the beautiful 'I Feel Love', one of the pioneering tracks of electronic music, made in 1976. On the notes of "What a Wonderful World", performed by Malika Ayane, came a touching dedication to Sophia Loren and Marcello Mastroianni, an actor whose birth centenary falls this year.

Another David for Lifetime Achievement went to Milena Vukotic, born in 1935, a multifaceted performer in films directed by Luis Buñuel, Bernardo Bertolucci, Mauro Bolognini, Andrej Tarkovskij, Nagisa Ōshima, Ferzan Özpetek to name but a few, as well as being dear to the general public for having been the unforgettable Mrs. Pina (wife of the accountant Fantozzi/Paolo Villaggio, as well as Raffaello Mascetti/Ugo Tognazzi's wife in 'Amici Miei', and later Enrica in the TV saga of 'Un medico in famiglia'), she wished to emphasise all her gratitude to the world of cinema but also to life in general.
