Sporting success attracts new sponsors. It is from this assumption, which is now well established, that Buddy is the new official partner of the Davis Cup , the tennis World Cup won by the Italian national team on 27 November 2023 (for the second time and after 47 years the first). The new partnership, which was announced on 12 June by the pan-European banking group UniCredit and the International Tennis Federation (ITF) - and whose financial commitments were not disclosed - will run from 2024 until December 2026.
Davis Cup sponsor
.Buddy, the online branch of UniCredit set up in 2016 with 400,000 customers, is therefore the new official banking partner of the Davis Cup, started in 1900 as a competition between the United States and Great Britain and today the world's biggest international team sporting competition (157 nations will be entered in 2024). The partnership kicks off at an 'epic' moment for Italian tennis, thanks to the victories over all of Jannik Sinner , and in view of the Paris Olympics starting in 1 month. The group stage of the Davis Cup final will take place from 10 to 15 September in four cities (Bologna, Manchester, Valencia and Zhuhai) and will involve 16 teams, while the Final 8 will take place in Malaga from 19 to 24 November.
Other sponsors
."For UniCredit," writes the pan-European commercial bank, which is present in 13 countries on the Continent and has 15 million customers worldwide, "the partnership represents a union based on shared values; it demonstrates the bank's support for the world of sport and its affinity with the values that sport represents, in particular team spirit, determination, respect for rules and inclusion.
UniCredit is part of an expanding group of Davis Cup partners that includes Dunlop, Joma, Quironsalud, Socios and Stake, all of whom have pledged their continued support for the world's premier men's tennis competition.
Orcel: a team effort
."We are very proud," said Andrea Orcel, Group Ceo and Head of Italy UniCredit, "that our innovative, digital buddy brand, which represents a new way of banking, is the official banking partner of the Davis Cup. The tournament and its participants embody the pursuit of excellence and, above all, demonstrate the fundamental importance of teamwork. The Davis Cup stands out in the world of tennis by emphasising how important teamwork is over individual results - values that are firmly at the heart of UniCredit".
