Dead Aimo Moroni, symbol of Milan's starred restaurant scene
Aimo Moroni died yesterday at the age of 91, founder with his wife Nadia Giuntoli of the restaurant Il Luogo di Aimo e Nadia, which since the 1980s has been one of the symbols of Milanese starred dining. Both from Tuscany, they arrived in Milan in the 1950s where they opened a trattoria in 1962 offering dishes from their home region, with Nadia at the cooker and Aimo running the dining room but not only.
From the famous Etruscan soup, they then opened their kitchen to all the national delicacies and under the name Il Luogo di Aimo e Nadia their Tuscan trattoria became one of Milan's leading and best restaurants with its first Michelin star in 1981. Having joined the company, their daughter Stefania worked on communication and marketing while the kitchen was entrusted to chefs Alessandro Negrini and Fabio Pisani, with new openings such as the Aimo and Nadia BistRO.
And it is they who will now carry on one of the iconic restaurant venues in Milan and beyond in the same location on Via Montecuccoli.
