Ivan Lo Bello, 62, former president of Confindustria Sicilia and former national vice-president of industrialists, died in Catania, where he was hospitalised. A law graduate, Lo Bello was one of the creators in Sicily, together with Antonello Montante, of the Code of Ethics that provided for the expulsion of entrepreneurs who paid pizzo. 'Whoever pays the pizzo will be expelled' was the rule.
Elected president of Confindustria Siracusa in 1999, a position he held until 2005, in 2006 he became president of Confindustria Sicilia and national vice-president since 2012 with responsibility for education; president of the Syracuse Chamber of Commerce; president of Unioncamere from 2015 to 2018; president of Banco di Sicilia from 2008 to 2010; president of UniCredit Leasing since 2010; member of the board of directors of the Censis foundation since 2010.
