Wolfgang Abel, the Veronese who, together with Marco Furlan, was convicted of 15 murders between 1977 and 1984 under the neo-Nazi acronym 'Ludwig' in Veneto, Lombardy and Bavaria, has died at the age of 64. Born in Munich in 1959, in September 2021 he was hospitalised in serious condition at the Borgo Trento hospital in Verona after being taken ill.
He had been found in his home in Monte Rico di Arbizzano, in the municipality of Negrar (Verona), by his mother's carer. He had suffered a head injury in the fall and had ended up in a coma. His death, as we learnt, occurred a few days ago in the vegetative state section of the Sacro Cuore Don Calabria hospital in Negrar, where he was hospitalised without ever having regained consciousness. Abel had served 32 years between prison and house arrest, and had returned completely free in 2016. He has always professed his innocence.
