Defence: Crosetto discussed cyber and hybrid threats with Lithuanian Minister Griksas
(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Strengthening cooperation in the defence industry and technologies, and developing capabilities to counter cyber and hybrid threats, were at the centre of today’s talks between Defence Minister Guido Crosetto and the Lithuanian Minister for the Economy and Innovation, Edvinas Griksas. The Italian minister reported this, emphasising the gratitude expressed for Italia’s contribution of personnel and aircraft to NATO’s ‘Air Policing’ and ‘Air Defence’ operations in defence of Lithuania. In mid-September, Italian Eurofighter jets were deployed to shoot down a drone over the Baltic state and were subsequently deployed in the days that followed after Russian jets entered Lithuanian airspace.
The discussion between Crosetto and Griksas centred on strengthening bilateral cooperation in the defence industry and technology sectors and consolidating the European security architecture, with a view to extending beyond the scope of the 27-member EU: “The aim is to develop interoperable capabilities to counter threats, particularly hybrid and cyber threats, for the benefit of all nations on our continent.”
