Defence, model reorganisation of the Armed Forces presented to Crosetto
The legislative translation phase of the proposals developed by the Committee now opens, which will be conducted within a framework of institutional collaboration
A month after the start of the work of the Strategic Committee, promoted by Defence Minister Guido Crosetto, the new model for the reorganisation of the Armed Forces, which will form the basis of the draft law for the revision of the military instrument, was presented on Monday 16 February at the Defence General Staff. The proposal - reads a note - acknowledges the initial direction outlined by the Minister: a comprehensive and structural reform, of a technical and operational nature, aimed at adapting the military instrument to the changed geopolitical context, strengthening its capacity, resilience and effectiveness in the long term. "The bill does not respond to the needs of a Minister pro tempore, but defines the military instrument that the country will need in the next 20 years," stressed Crosetto, confirming that it will be the men and women of the Armed Forces who will illustrate its contents and prospects in Parliament.
Defence leadership involved
The process, the note goes on to explain, has involved the operational and administrative leadership of Defence with the aim of enhancing operational capabilities, simplifying decision-making processes and optimising the use of resources, within the framework of Italy's international commitments. Now opens the phase of normative translation of the proposals developed by the Committee, which will be conducted in a framework of full institutional cooperation. In the past few days, in a letter sent to the President of the Republic Guido Crosetto, the minister had made it clear that the measure would be on the table of the Council of Ministers by March.
The concluding meeting
The concluding meeting was attended by the Undersecretaries of Defence, Hon. Matteo Perego di Cremnago and Sen. Isabella Rauti, the Chief of Defence Staff, the top management of the Defence Staff, the individual Armed Forces and the Carabinieri Corps, as well as representatives of the Defence General Secretariat and the National Armaments Directorate.
