Where will people travel to in 2025? Paris, London and Amsterdam remain evergreens in the travel desires of Italians, who however also dream of going (or returning) to New York, Tokyo, Miami and Madrid. The fastest-growing destination is Giza, symbol of ancient Egypt (+257% for bookings over 2023) while Rome remains among the global top 10 for next year too. These are some of the indications coming from the report "A year in travel by eDreams ODIGEO 2024 which analyses bookings and searches for travel in 2024 and 2025.

Strong passion for sport in 2025

If European destinations are the most booked at the moment by compatriots for travel in 2025, America, Asia and Australia also stand out in the top 10. In particular, the wake of enthusiasm for sporting and cultural events remains visible for next year. Paris, which according to data from eDreams ODIGEO saw a 62% increase in bookings in 2024 thanks to the Games compared to 2023, remains at the top of the rankings for next year, and Tokyo, which in 2025 will host the World Athletics Championships, records a 135% increase in searches for those dates compared to the same period this year.Among the other destinations linked to important cultural, sporting and musical events are Bangkok, London and Paris, which occupy the top spots for bookings in 2025.

Jubilee effect

.

Already in sixth place for bookings and in the top 10 for international searches in 2024, Rome for 2025 is already among the 10 most searched destinations and is in fourth place for bookings after Bangkok, London and Paris. A Jubilee effect clearly visible in the choices of those who are organising next year's calendar globally, considering among other things that searches to visit the city have grown by 16% year on year. Even looking ahead to 2024, the Italian city most present among bookings and searches in general remains Rome, with Milan also in the top 10 of total searches for this year. Focusing on visiting foreigners, the 'Italian holiday' lovers for 2024 are mainly French (25% of bookings to travel to Italy), Spanish (21%) and German (18%).

Customisation in the foreground

.

The desire for customised holidays has grown internationally in 2024. In fact, an eDreams ODIGEO survey of 10,000 respondents revealed that the majority of consumers (84 per cent) prefer to have multiple travel options to choose from, actively seeking to compare and combine multiple airlines and hotels rather than relying on a single player's offer. This indicates that travellers are increasingly value-driven, weighing factors such as cost-effectiveness, flexibility and convenience. Instead of turning to familiar airlines, hotels or car rental companies, they are focusing on accessing the entire market and customising travel experiences to meet their specific needs. This is a trend that marks a significant departure from the traditional approach, with interchangeable solutions for everyone, and instead favouring a travel offering that is closer to the consumer.
