Dhl Supply Chain Italia, part of the German multinational Dhl, accelerates on the sustainability front. The company announces that it has reached the goal of 100% carbon neutral sites, zeroing direct CO2 emissions. These sites (warehouses and logistics centres) occupy an area of over one million square metres. At the same time, there is a strong commitment to reducing transport-related emissions, also thanks to the use of alternative fuels such as Hvo (biodiesel).
The president and managing director of Dhl Supply Chain Italia, Antonio Lombardo, told Il Sole 24 Ore: 'In recent years the company has made significant investments in alternative energy sources, such as photovoltaic panels, which exploit the large areas of the warehouses, and geothermal plants. On the transport front, this year we expect to arrive at about a thousand vehicles between heavy and light that use Hvo fuel, and we will continue investing in the conversion of the fleet to Euro 6 or Euro 6+ engines, which are necessary for the use of this type of fuel. In fact, one of the slogans that characterises our strategy in Italia is precisely green logistics'.
Lombardo continues: 'Being a sustainable company makes us more attractive in the eyes of our employees and customers, but especially to young people entering the job market. For us, young talent is very important because for the past five years we have been going the way of direct hiring. We have ceased all relations with external cooperatives, we work exclusively with our employees, who number over 3,000'. People are therefore at the centre of Dhl Supply Chain Italia's strategy. The commitment to creating an inclusive, safe and wellbeing-oriented work environment has received important external recognition with the Great Place To Work certification as of 2023.
Dhl Supply Chain handles the complexity of the entire logistics chain on behalf of its client companies: from product pick-up at the factory, through storage, to final distribution. "The advantage, for the customer, is to have a single logistics partner and to be able to count on tailor-made solutions," notes the managing director. The company operates in all market sectors: pharmaceutical, high-tech, FMCG and electronics, fashion & retaily, industrial & automotive. The company is structured in business units dedicated to each sector. An organisation that guarantees in-depth knowledge of specific market needs. In particular, a specific brand, Dhl Health Logistics was created for the medical/pharmaceutical sector for deliveries to hospitals, wholesalers and pharmacies, which has become a market leader.
In 2025, the turnover of Dhl Supply Chain Italia reached EUR 555 million (EUR 532 million the year before). The average revenue growth in recent years has been between four and six per cent. Investments amounting to some EUR 16 million in 2025 have focused on automation, collaborative robotization, the development of digital activities and solutions to reduce CO2 emissions. A similar budget is planned for 2026, confirming a long-standing investment propensity in Italia.
