An economic observatory was set up in Borgomanero. It was set up by the Academy Foundation, established in 2023 by Confindustria Novara Vercelli Valsesia (Cnvv) to deal with training in robotics and mechatronics, with the aim of monitoring both the activities of the taps and valves district and the local Borgomanero system.

The Observatory's supervision and scientific consultancy was entrusted to Marco Fortis, vice-president and director of Fondazione Edison, which has been studying and analysing the development dynamics of territories since the 1990s. A wide range of data is periodically published in the Observatory: sector exports and incidence on the foreign trade balance, brass consumption, investments in machinery and equipment, employment in Italy and in the District, number of companies and employees in the sector and in the territory (broken down by municipalities), aggregate turnover in the District.

"The periodic updating of these historical series constitutes the basis of the knowledge that we want to share, to contribute in the constant action of highlighting the industrial value that our territory has, starting from the rate of innovation and research, to promote its potential also in order to attract talent," explains Giovanni Campagnoli, director of the Academy Foundation. The digitalisation of factories has, in fact, led to a very high rate of excellence, with a strong focus on productions that allow both effective water saving and a high level of energy efficiency, in line with the UN 2030 Agenda. A concrete commitment also to the energy saving of the companies' production processes themselves, which from 2025 will be certified in the 'Impact Reports', which will accompany the economic ones'.

The Observatory's first report, published on 5 April 2024, is available at www.fondazioneacademy.it/index.php/courses/osservatorio.

In the meantime, the Academy Foundation, having closed its first year of training activities with a tally of 250 trainees and 37 beneficiary companies, has decided to extend its premises by 120 square metres in order to place new machinery for other courses: a Dmg Mori lathe, a Brother machining centre, a Microplan measuring table, a robotised island and a chromium-plating workshop.

And on the training front, it is worth mentioning the launch on 10 June in Borgomanero of the first Cnc (numerical control machine) course for 'women only', in collaboration with Umana Agenzia per il Lavoro, and with already six leading companies in the area, to which another six may be added. After the two robotics courses for women last year (among the first in Italy), this is a new course, again free of charge, of 250 hours for unemployed women, with guaranteed employment for those who reach the final certificate.
