Dmitriev: China could also join the Russia-US tunnel project
Russia hopes to complete the design of the tunnel connecting Russia with the United States across the Bering Strait by the end of 2026 and believes that China could also join the project.
This was stated today by Kirill Dmitriev, Special Representative of the President for Investment and Economic Cooperation with Foreign Countries and CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (Rdif).
"We hope to complete the design by the end of this year. Once again, the decision on construction will be based on the results of the design. We are moving forward with this project. It is very important: a similar project was discussed in tsarist times, during the Stalinist period, and was proposed as a peace bridge between Khrushchev and Kennedy. Therefore, several changes were discussed at length,' the Russian official said. 'We believe China could also join this project, as it will have important infrastructure implications for connecting the continent,' Dmitriev noted.
