Dolce&Gabbana chooses Skims for a 'shapewear' line

Dolce&Gabbana's 2024 closes with two announcements, which are both surprises and confirmations. The first concerns the exhibition Dal cuore alle mani (From the heart to the hands), which closed in July in Milan and was the most visited exhibition of the year at the Palazzo Reale, despite "competition" from international artists. The exhibition, dedicated to the maison's most exclusive and artisanal collections, those of haute couture and high jewellery (in fact, unique pieces handmade in Italy), will make a stop in Paris after Milan: the title, ca va sans dire, has been translated into French (Du Coeur à La Main), but the fascination of Dolce&Gabbana's journey into craftsmanship will remain intact and will be hosted from 10 January to 31 March 2025 at the Grand Palais, which has just reopened after major restoration work. A surprise announcement, we were saying, but also an expected one, given the international attention the exhibition has received since its first day in Milan.

The second (and who knows if the last) novelty proposed by Dolce&Gabbana this year-end was announced yesterday from the United Kingdom, where the BoF Voices 2024, a summit organised by Business of Fashion, which in just a few years has become one of the most important information platforms in the global fashion industry, is taking place. The news is a collaboration between Dolce&Gabbana and Skims, the shapewear brand that Kim Kardashian co-founded with Jens Grede in 2019 and of which she is chief creative officer. Given her long friendship with Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana and her participation in some of the brand's campaigns, fashion shows and events, it is not surprising that Dolce&Gabbana was chosen, by elective affinity we might say, for the launch of the collaboration, which fuses the Italian lifestyle of which Dolce&Gabbana has always been a proud symbol of with the comfort and versatility of Skims, offering a selection of sensual looks that enhance the silhouette and instil confidence and charm, as is the intention of the shapewear brand created by Kim Kardashian.

"It was an honour to collaborate with my friends Domenico and Stefano on this special collection by Dolce&Gabbana and Skims," explained Kim Kardashian. "We selected classic Dolce&Gabbana silhouettes and Leopard prints and reinterpreted them with the exceptional fit and comfort that Skims is known for. An affinity confirmed by the two designer-entrepreneurs: "Our bond with Kim, based on a long friendship, naturally inspired this new collaboration that was born under the banner of inclusivity and body positivity, themes that are close to our hearts and at the core of Skims' values".

The collection includes some of the most representative designs from the archives of the two brands, with a focus on fit, texture, prints and logo details. From the most sensual lingerie to silk sleep sets, from shaping trousers to body-hugging corsets, there are looks for every occasion (and in every size, from XXS to 4X, with bra sizes ranging from 30A to 38DD). The collection will be available on skims.com, in Skims shops, in selected Dolce&Gabbana boutiques and in top luxury retailers, including Neiman Marcus, from 19 November and there will be special displays in shops featuring gold and shiny metallic details and rounded shapes.
