The coffin of Domenico Caliendo, the two-year-old boy who died last 21 February at the Monaldi hospital in Naples where he had undergone a heart transplant with a damaged organ, arrived shortly after 11am at the Nola cathedral.
The arrival of the coffin was greeted with heartfelt applause by the people already present in the square outside the cathedral, awaiting the opening of the funeral chamber and, at 3pm, the funeral.
Welcoming the coffin and the child's parents at the entrance of the church were the mayor of Nola, Andrea Ruggiero, and Michele Buonfiglio, the mayor of Taurano, a town in the Vallo di Lauro in the province of Avellino, where Domenico's mother and father are from.

There was a long embrace between Patrizia Mercolino, little Domenico's mother, and Anna Iervolino director general of the Azienda Ospedaliera dei Colli, to which the Monaldi Hospital belongs. Domenico's father, Antonio, helped carry the coffin into the church.
The director went to Nola Cathedral where the funeral chamber of the two-and-a-half-year-old boy who died on 21 February following a heart transplant performed at the Monaldi Hospital in Naples is set up.
