As of 20 June, dogs, even if they are medium-sized, will be allowed to travel in the cabin on Ita planes, but only on domestic flights and if the weight does not exceed 10 kilos. The Enac (National Civil Aviation Authority) has authorised the company to allow dogs to be carried on the plane and not in the hold by increasing the permitted weight from 8 to 10 kilos as an exception to the European rule. Ita has thus launched a new promotion to attract new customers.
Can only cats and dogs be brought on board? What about other animals? This is not clear but the company makes it clear that these are pets. So theoretically all those that travellers perceive as friends. Maybe as long as they are safe in their carrier.
Supplement of 73 euro
.As of today - Ita explains in a note - by virtue of authorisation from Enac, on all of the company's domestic flights the maximum weight of the animal in the cabin is increased by 25% from 8 to 10 kg, in addition to the 2 kg of the pet carrier. Ita Airways' new offer," the company explains, "was created to meet the ever-increasing demand of customers, in order to guarantee maximum comfort during the flight. The service includes window seat reservations for the following new permitted dimensions: up to 12 kg (including pet carrier) with maximum dimensions of 30 cm wide, 24 cm high and 40 cm deep. The new offer also includes a dedicated boarding pass for animals, with name and route entered manually by the ground staff. A surcharge of€73 is foreseen.
Enac: ready to grant exemptions for other carriers as well
The 25 per cent capacity increase is currently only available for domestic flights, while international and intercontinental flights will retain the current weight and size restrictions. The initiative could be extended to other companies: 'Enac, also on the basis of a specific address from Minister Matteo Salvini, in order to make it easier for more passengers to transport their pets by air, will assess any similar proposals put forward by other airlines to allow the carriage of pets weighing up to 10 kg in the cabin to carriers that request it, in compliance with the constraints set out in the relevant EU regulations'.
