The associations of the national wine production chain - Alleanza Cooperative Agroalimentari, Assoenologi, Cia, Confagricoltura, Copagri, Federdoc, Federvini and Unione Italiana Vini - unanimously reiterate their strong concern about the impact of the introduction of US duties on European products.

For this reason, they appeal to the Italian and European institutions to make determined efforts to support the multilateral dialogue with the US authorities and to at least suspend the application of the duties as soon as possible.

Exports of the Italian wine sector to the United States, the world's leading destination market," reads a joint note, "are now worth €2 billion. The application of the tariffs will result in a hard blow for one of the sectors that symbolises the excellence of Made in Italy, with direct effects on exports and the growth prospects of companies.

The duties,' the note continues, 'will also cause negative consequences on the US market, affecting thousands of American companies active in the import and distribution of Italian products. The inflationary dynamic will not be limited to the duties themselves, but will affect the entire trade chain and consumer purchasing behaviour. After years of investment in the American market, we run the risk of witnessing the disappearance of many of our products of excellence from American tables.
