Fazzolari: "Meloni's trip to the US full of pitfalls"

'The trip (of Giorgia Meloni to the United States, ed) is certainly not easy and is full of pitfalls. But let us return to what it is: a bilateral meeting between Italy and the US and it is right and proper that this should happen'. Thus the undersecretary to the Presidency of the Council, Giovanbattista Fazzolari, at the presentation of Alessandro Sallusti's book, 'L'eresia liberale', in Rome. When pressed on the expression 'rich in pitfalls', Fazzolari clarified: 'Yes, rich in pitfalls, because the American declarations make one think of the desire for a strongly protectionist policy (on the part of the USA, ed.), something that would strongly damage Italy. I don't know how beneficial it would be for the US, but for Italy and Europe a US protectionist policy could be a great danger'.

"Meloni easier to talk to Trump clearly"

.

On duties, Fazzolari added, 'it is clear that Giorgia Meloni does not have a mandate from the European Commission, but we know that personal relationships are fundamental even for big choices. On this, Berlusconi has taught us a lot and I believe that there is a great interest from the whole European Union because Giorgia Meloni may have an easier time than others in speaking clearly and sincerely, in talking with President Trump to find an agreement that is convenient for both'.
