Middle East: Macron-Trump talks at the UN, with proposals to reopen the Strait of Hormuz on the table

The meeting was described as “very constructive” by Macron himself, who said that “various solutions” had been mooted that could lead to an agreement to allow “a greater number of container ships and oil tankers” to pass through. According to diplomatic sources cited by AFP, France wishes to work with the United States and other partners on a United Nations Security Council resolution that would guarantee freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
