E21: flash estimate – August inflation rate rises to 3.3 per cent
Energy sector surges; Italia rises from 2.9 per cent to 3.2 per cent
(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - In August, the annual inflation rate in the eurozone rose to 3.3 per cent from 2.9 per cent in July. This is Eurostat’s flash estimate. Energy is expected to have recorded the highest rate of increase (14.3 per cent compared with 10.3 per cent), followed by services (3 per cent after 3.3 per cent), non-energy industrial goods (1.2 per cent after 0.9 per cent), and food, alcohol and tobacco (1.2 per cent, unchanged). Excluding energy: 2.2 per cent; excluding processed food as well: 2.1 per cent; excluding energy, alcohol, food and tobacco: 2.4 per cent. In Italia, the rate of price growth was 3.2 per cent, up from 2.9 per cent in July; in Germany, 2.9 per cent, up from 2.8 per cent; in France, 2.7 per cent, up from 2.4 per cent; and 4.5 per cent, up from 3.9 per cent. Eurostat will publish the full data on 17 September.
