Reorganisation and drastic closures for the British company easyJet, which from summer 2025 will no longer see its Venice base in its network, from which it will however maintain connections between the Veneto capital and the main European destinations including Berlin, London and Paris. The three aircraft currently based in Venice will be transferred within the carrier's European network from summer 2025.

The reason for the decision was to 'ensure sustainable growth on the Italian market'. Positive 'the quality of the commercial relationship with Save' that has led 'over the years to an important development of the company at this airport. We will therefore continue to work to seize future opportunities,' reads a note. Current employment levels will be maintained and all pilots and flight attendants currently based in Venice will be offered a transfer to other Italian bases of the company.

The suspension follows the reduction of Ryanair's routes from Venice, but not from the north-east such as Treviso, Verona and Trieste due to the increase in airport taxes decided by the Venetian municipality.

The British low-cost airline plans to strengthen its position in Milan, where it is already the main carrier at Malpensa, by increasing the number of aircraft based there, and should it be designated as a 'remedy taker' with the sale of slots as part of the agreement between Ita Airways and Lufthansa, the company expects to open bases at Milan Linate and Rome Fiumicino airports from summer 2025.

For the Save group, the company that manages, among others, Venice's Marco Polo airport, the decision is completely 'unexpected' and hopes to minimise the impact by increasing frequencies with other carriers. The airport company, in a note, emphasises that 'the traffic generated by easyJet has not been satisfactory for some time due to an inability to intercept demand from our territory, to which is added the fact that during the month of August easyJet was the carrier that generated the highest number of delays and cancellations'.
