ECB: Eurogroup – two candidates for the presidency, de Cos and Knot
(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - As expected, there are two candidates for the ECB presidency to succeed Christine Lagarde: Pablo Hernandez dez Cos from Spain and Klaas Knot from the Netherlands. This was announced by Eurogroup President Kyriakos Pierrakakis. Next Monday, the eurozone finance ministers, who will meet in Brussels, “will take stock of these nominations”. The other day, a source involved in preparing the Eurogroup meetings had suggested that an agreement between governments on the new presidency and the appointment of two members of the ECB’s Executive Board might be on the cards in the near future.
The other two members to be replaced are Isabel Schnabel of Germany (from 3 January) and Philip Lane of Ireland (from 1 June). The matter of the replacements will be settled at the level of Heads of State and Government.
