ECB: nominations for the Eurogroup presidency must be submitted by Friday
Request from Pierrakakis; the Eurogroup will discuss it on the 9th
(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - The Eurogroup spokesperson has indicated that the governments of the 21 eurozone member states must submit their nominations for the position of ECB President following Christine Lagarde’s departure by Friday. They have been urged to do so by President Pierrakakis. The euro area finance ministers “will take stock of the nominations” at their meeting on the 9th in Brussels. Members of the ECB’s Executive Board are appointed by the European Council, which makes its decision on the basis of a recommendation from the Council regarding a candidate. This recommendation is adopted by the euro area Member States with voting rights within the Council. This, the spokesperson explained, is why such appointments are discussed in advance within the Eurogroup.
