Eccentrica, the restomod based on the Lamborghini Diablo of the 1990s, is approaching the world debut of the V12 project, which will take centre stage at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, scheduled to take place on 16 August at Monterey Car Week in the United States. The event will be the ideal stage to present the marque for the first time. Following the unveiling of the prototype in July 2023 and a journey to showcase the vehicle's capabilities with a world tour of the United States, Japan, Great Britain and the United Arab Emirates, the debut at The Quail will mark the achievement of the ambitious goals set by Eccentrica, representing a further step on the path of development and refinement. The project is now ready for road driving and to fully demonstrate its performance.
The Eccentrica V12 stands out for its dimensions, which give it a strong presence on the road. The overall length is 4437 mm, a reduction of 23 mm compared to the original model, while the width has increased by 103 mm to 2143 mm to ensure greater stability and a more aggressive appearance. The 1114 mm height helps to keep the centre of gravity low, thus improving handling. The car's wheelbase has been extended to 2665 mm, an increase of 15 mm compared to the Diablo, to ensure greater stability at high speeds. The performance of the Eccentrica V12 is in line with that of a hypercar based on a car from the 1990s. With an estimated top speed of 335 km/h, the restomod ranks among the fastest cars in the world. The power-to-weight ratio is 2.91 kg/hp, ensuring acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds and a 1,000-metre run in 19.6 seconds. The estimated lateral acceleration is 1.2 g, offering exceptional road holding in corners. In addition, braking from 100 to 0 km/h takes 34 metres, demonstrating excellent deceleration capability. The drag coefficient is 0.31, for very low air resistance. The beating heart is a 60° naturally aspirated V12, a choice that celebrates the tradition of automotive performance. This engine delivers maximum power of 550 hp at 7000 rpm and maximum torque of 600 Nm at 6500 rpm. With a displacement of 5707 cm³ and a bore of 87 mm, it is a true marvel of engineering.
While keeping tradition alive, the new version of the Diablo introduces several innovative elements that deviate from the original features. To maximise the engine's power, the Eccentrica team developed a bespoke transmission that improves performance. The Eccentrica V12 is in fact equipped with a customised 6-speed gearbox featuring shorter ratios. The gearbox features an innovative reverse gear solution, which can be operated electrically via a button on the central tunnel. This technology, introduced in the 1990s, has become an indispensable feature of modern supercars.
