Ecobonus: applications open from Wednesday – low-emission vans and grants for switching to LPG and CNG
Applications must be submitted exclusively via the ecobonus.mimit.gov.it portal
An incentive to replace small businesses’ vans and another to convert cars already on the road to LPG or CNG: from 12 noon on Wednesday 29 July, bookings for both Ecobonus schemes will reopen. This is set out in a decree issued by the Directorate-General for Industrial Policy at the Ministry for Enterprise.
From the Automotive Fund
The measure implements Articles 3 and 5 of the Prime Ministerial Decree of 10 June 2026, which allocated the resources of the Automotive Fund for the years 2026–2030, including the remaining funds from 2025. The text introduces two grants: one for the purchase of new low-emission commercial vehicles, and the other for the installation of LPG and CNG systems on M1 category passenger cars.
Until 31 December
Reservations will cover purchases and installations carried out up to 31 December 2026. The platform is managed by Invitalia, under an agreement signed with the Mimit on 24 July: applications must be submitted exclusively via the ecobonus.mimit.gov.it portal.
Vans
The subsidy for commercial vehicles covers categories N1 and N2 and has a budget of 40 million euros for 2026. Eligible applicants include small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) engaged in freight transport, whether for their own account or on behalf of third parties, and hire companies that purchase a vehicle to lease it to an SME in the sector under a contract of at least three years.
The retrofit
The retrofit scheme, with a budget of 4 million, is open to both individuals and legal entities who install an LPG or CNG system on an M1 passenger car already in use, provided that the vehicle is type-approved to an emissions standard of at least Euro 3.
