"Packaging today is much more than a container: it is a point of emotional interaction between brand and consumer, where materials, textures and gestures of use are designed to go beyond functionality": this is the conviction of Vivien Charrey, managing director of Berlin Packaging Beauty, which has recently expanded its offer by integrating personal care with solutions for skincare, make-up, haircare, body care, suncare, fragrance and home fragrance thanks to the integration of the distinctive and complementary skills of Berlin Packaging | Nest-Filler, rooted in Korean expertise, and Berlin Packaging | Cosmei, the Italian company specialising in the colour cosmetics segment that recently joined the group, which enriches its offer with creative and innovative packaging in the make-up segment. Among the main innovations are new dispensing systems for skincare and personal care developed without metal components inside the dispensing chamber, designed to guarantee precision, mechanical reliability and compatibility with different formulas, while helping to simplify recycling processes and support a more circular approach to packaging. But also Xoco, an innovative polypropylene material obtained by upcycling hazelnut shells.
Ecodesign and sustainability are the key words in the development of the packaging sector, as demonstrated by the increasingly hi-tech proposals of companies. The Italian company Baralan, for example, has created Dea 2.0, an evolved version of airless technology in recycled glass. At the heart of the system is the soda-lime glass bottle, i.e. silicate glass, manufactured entirely in Europe, which guarantees high performance, excellent compatibility with cosmetic formulas and full integration into standard recycling streams, unlike borosilicate glass. It ensures precise and consistent dispensing and protects the formula from air and possible contamination, while maintaining a clean, premium aesthetic. With optimised components, a lighter structure and a design aligned with future Ppwr (Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation) requirements - the new EU regulation in force as of 11 February 2025 that imposes uniform rules to make all packaging recyclable or reusable by 2030 with the aim of drastically reducing waste, banning unnecessary single-use plastics and imposing minimum recycled content - it reflects the company's commitment to developing sustainable, circular economy-oriented solutions.
Glass also for Moon, the Lierac mascara developed by Lumson, active in primary cosmetic packaging, in collaboration with Ponzini, world excellence in mascara applicators. The project marks a new stage in Lumson's evolution. After entering the world of fragrances in 2025, on the 50th anniversary of its foundation, in 2026 a new and important challenge for the Italian company: to bring glass, a noble and precious material, already successfully used in the skincare universe, in foundations and fragrances, also into the world of mascaras - the best-selling and best-loved of all eye make-up products.
