Edison: QatarEnergy extends force majeure to a further five LNG shipments
The overall period has been extended until early November 2026
(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Edison has received a further notification from QatarEnergy confirming the continuation of the force majeure situation, which is preventing the seller from fulfilling its contractual obligations regarding gas deliveries to Italia. QatarEnergy, according to a statement, has informed Edison that it will be unable to make deliveries relating to a further five LNG cargoes, scheduled for the Adriatic LNG receiving terminal in Italia. This extends the overall force majeure period from the beginning of April to the beginning of November 2026.
Consequently, to date there have been a total of 29 LNG shipments affected by force majeure during this period, representing a total volume of approximately 3.8 billion cubic metres of natural gas. Edison confirms its ability to source alternative gas for all its customers and to be fully capable of honouring its commercial commitments. As of today, 28 August, the volumes replaced by Edison at the Adriatic LNG terminal amount to 21 LNG cargoes, corresponding to approximately 2 billion cubic metres of natural gas. Edison notes that the long-term contract with QatarEnergy, in force since 2009, provides for the supply of 6.4 billion cubic metres of gas per year to Italia, for a period of 25 years.
