Goodbye electric scooters without number plates and insurance. The decree published in the Official Gazette regulates the operation of the telematic platform for issuing identification plates for scooters with 'predominantly electric' propulsion. The scooter licence plate consists of a non-removable plastic-coated sticker to be affixed to the rear mudguard or the front of the steering column. The scooter identification sticker, which will be compulsory from 16 May, will not be linked to the vehicle but to the owner, and the request must be submitted via the Gestione pratiche online platform. The procedure is for all citizens over the age of 18, while for minors who have reached the age of 14, the application must be submitted by parents or those exercising parental responsibility. The cost of the licence plate for scooters will be EUR 8.66.

Different figures apply to the insurance to be taken out for using an electric scooter. Specifically, these are policies that cover damage to third parties when riding the scooter, providing compensation in the event of damage to vehicles or injury to pedestrians and cyclists.
