Arera: electricity bills up 4.6% in the third quarter for vulnerable customers
(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - In the third quarter of 2026, electricity bills for vulnerable customers under the ‘maggiore tutela’ scheme will rise by 4.6% compared with the previous quarter. The increase – according to a statement from ARERA – is due to the expected rise in wholesale electricity prices, driven by higher consumption forecast for the summer period and the ongoing international uncertainty affecting the expected prices of energy commodities; added to this, for the same period, is an increase in costs mainly relating to the capacity market, as July – when electricity demand is high – sees a concentration of the so-called ‘critical hours’ for the adequacy of the electricity system.
The annual cost for a typical vulnerable customer under the enhanced protection scheme will amount to 591.86 euro for the period from 1 October 2025 to 30 September 2026, a decrease of 0.9% compared with the €597.30 recorded in the previous period (1 October 2024 – 30 September 2025).
