Electricity bills down 2.7 % for the vulnerable in Q1 2026
The annual expenditure will be EUR 590.73 in the period between 1 April 2025 and 31 March 2026
Electricity bills will fall for the 'vulnerable typical customer' served under the 'Maggior Tutela' tariff. In the first quarter of 2026, they will decrease by 2.7%.
This was announced by Arera, the Regulatory Authority for Energy Networks and the Environment, specifying that the update concerns 'only the approximately 3 million vulnerable customers currently served in Major Protection'.
Yearly expenditure from 590 euro
The annual expense will therefore be €590.73 in the period between 1 April 2025 and 31 March 2026, up 13% from the €522.97 recorded between 1 April 2024 and 31 March 2025. The Authority recalls that all vulnerable customers who are in the free market have the right to switch to the Maggior Tutela.
What is the reason for the drop
The decrease in the bill in the first quarter of 2026, reads Arera's note, 'is mainly attributable to the contraction of the equalisation component within the Energy Expenditure and the downward revision of some items related to Transport and Meter Management Charges'
Prices
As of 1 January 2026, the reference price of electricity for the vulnerable typical customer served in the 'Maggior Tutela' will be 27.97 euro cents per kilowatt hour, taxes included.
