Musk expressed disappointment on Cbs sunday morning over the Budget bill presented by Donald Trump. Video of the interview will air on Cbs on 1 June. A clip of the interview was shared by Cbs on X on 27 May.
"I was disappointed to see the massive spending bill: frankly it increases the budget deficit, instead of decreasing it, and undermines the work the Doge team is doing," Musk said.
The ceo of Tesla, who has been working hard - especially in the early months of Trump's second term - to reduce government spending with the Doge (Department of government efficiency) by "eliminating fraud and waste in the federal budget," in his own words, has recently said he will step back from his commitment to lead the department.
In October 2024, Musk said that with the Doge's work at least two trillion dollars of US government spending could be saved. Only to add, at a later date, that even a thousand billion would have been a "good blow"..
Trump's spending bill, which passed the House on 22 May 2025, would add trillions of dollars to the federal deficit according to Musk. In November 2024 Trump announced that Doge would be co-chaired by Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy. Trump said that the Commission will conclude its work by 4 July 2026. And that even though he will be less present, to lead his companies, the team will go ahead.
