Emilia-Romagna passes the law on assisted suicide

The Legislative Assembly of Emilia-Romagna has approved the regional law governing the procedures for access to medically assisted suicide, in accordance with the rulings of the Constitutional Court.

The measure, supported by the centre-left majority and opposed by the opposition, sets out the timetable and procedures for verifying eligibility and carrying out the process across the region, pending the introduction of national legislation.

It is the third region in Italia, after Tuscany and Sardinia, to introduce legislation setting out the timeframes and procedures for medically assisted voluntary death.
