Enercom accelerates on hydropower and photovoltaics
The push for green energy is one of the pillars of the Crema group's sustainability report

Ever greener energy at the service of the community. This is the hallmark of the Enercom Group with a history of over one hundred years behind it.
"From the very beginning,' says President Cristina Crotti, 'we have espoused a business model that, in addition to pursuing its own business objectives, constantly works for the progress of people, communities and the environment in which it operates. It all started with the Crema Gas Workshop for public lighting at the end of the 19th century, then gradually our business transformed and became more structured for an energy distribution service to communities. With the liberalisation of the 2000s we began to expand the market to the whole of Italy'.
The diversification of the energy mix with the entry into renewables dates back some 20 years, first with hydroelectricity and then with photovoltaics. Today, the group - which in 2024 reached a production value of 303.2 million and employs 450 people - has seven hydroelectric power plants in the province of Bergamo, while the main photovoltaic plants are located in Piedmont, Lombardy and Sicily.
The push for green energy sources is consistent with the objectives written in black and white in the Sustainability Report drawn up three years ago on a voluntary basis on the basis of the European sustainability reporting standards (Esrs), in line with the 2025-2030 strategic plan that sees renewables as one of the central pillars. "In the last four years," Crotti explains, "we have invested over 35 million for these plants (10 for hydroelectric and 25 for photovoltaic) that will allow our group to reach 28 megawatts of installed power by the end of the year. And projects are being studied to reach a total of 100 megawatts by 2030. 'We also do not rule out producing energy from other alternative sources, such as biogas,' the president adds. Not only that. "We also deeply share the concept of sustainability in our relations with our customers: for this reason,' says Crotti, 'we have launched an energy efficiency service and, in addition to our own self-production, we are setting up photovoltaic systems for households and businesses. For industrial customers, this year we are engaged in a series of interventions for about 12 megawatts of total installed power'.
Attention to the community, another cornerstone of the sustainability report, also translates into greater proximity to customers: in the areas where it operates, the group has redesigned its 37 sales outlets to offer a customised service. While the new headquarters in Cremosano (Cremona) was born from the recovery of a disused industrial space converted according to eco-friendly criteria, to focus on environmental sustainability and people's well-being. In 2024, on the initiative of some employees, the building became the hub of EnerCER, the first energy community in the Cremasque area. Today it has 23 members and a self-consuming and shared energy capacity of 130,000 kWh.
