The Antitrust Authority has imposed a fine of EUR 30.359 million and another of EUR 1.7 million on Novamont, jointly and severally with its parent company Eni, for abuse of a dominant position from at least 1 January 2018 to 31 December 2023.

This is according to an Antitrust Authority notice, according to which the company abused its dominant position in the national raw material markets for the production of (lightweight and ultra-light) bags for fruit and vegetables through a strategy of excluding competitors.

The Authority 'has ascertained that Novamont has developed a standard product (called Mater-Bi) acquiring a dominant position in the national market for the production of bioplastics for shoppers and for ultralight bags, with a share always higher than 50% in the first case and 70% in the second case': in these markets, Novamont has created a dual system of agreements with exclusive supply clauses at two levels of the supply chain: with processors and with large organised distribution.
