Eni: expands collaboration with Sonatrach and the Ministry of Industry to reduce emissions in Algeria
(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Eni and Sonatrach have signed a new memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at expanding cooperation between the two companies through the promotion of concrete initiatives for the decarbonisation of the oil and Gas sector and the reduction of emissions in Algeria, whilst adopting international best practice. This was announced in a press release, which added that the agreement represents a further development of the cooperation process launched in January 2023 with the signing of a three-year memorandum of understanding dedicated to reducing gas flaring, utilising recovered gas and mitigating emissions associated with upstream activities in Algeria.
The new Memorandum of Understanding builds on the previous one, further expanding the scope of the collaboration and introducing new areas of cooperation. In particular, the parties will cooperate on initiatives for the natural removal of CO₂ through afforestation projects and will strengthen activities relating to the monitoring, quantification and reduction of methane emissions through the adoption of the main international standards in the oil and gas sector.
