Eni, new gas discovery in Indonesia. Agreement signed with Saipem for Priolo
The group announces the discovery of a 140 billion cubic metre reservoir in the Kutei offshore
Eni announces a new gas discovery from the Geliga-1 exploratory well, drilled in the Ganal block in the Kutei Basin, about 70 kilometres off the coast of East Kalimantan, offshore Indonesia.
As specified in a note, preliminary estimates indicate in-place volumes of approximately140 billion cubic metres of gas (5 Tcf) and 300 million barrels of condensatei in the interval encountered. The Geliga-1 well was drilled to a total depth of about 5,100 metres in about 2,000 metres of water depth and encountered a significant gas column in the Miocene interval, characterised by excellent petrophysical properties.
A production test is planned to assess the field's productivity. The Geliga-1 discovery fits into Eni's exploration track record in the Kutei Basin and follows the major Geng North discovery, which occurred at the end of 2023 just 20 kilometres south of Geliga, as well as the more recent Konta-1 well discovery, announced in December 2025. These results confirm the significant potential of the gas play in the basin and the scalability of resources in the area.
Biorefining in Priolo
Meanwhile Saipem has signed with Eni Industrial Evolution the main contract for the construction of the new biorefinery in Priolo, Sicily, a project announced on 3 February by Eni and Q8 Italia, according to Saipem in a statement.
The contract, which is worth approximately 700 million euros upon completion, is scheduled for completion at the end of 2028 and includes Engineering, Procurement and Construction activities.
