Epstein case: MPs call for resignation of Lutnick, the tariffs man
From the latest leaked documents, it appears that Trump's Secretary of Commerce had relations with the paedophile financier for much longer than hitherto admitted
In the US, the chairman of the House Oversight Committee, Republican James Comer, is not ruling out the possibility of summoning Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick for a deposition on his dealings with Jeffrey Epstein. Comer's openness to hear Lutnick comes as the Commerce Secretary is under bipartisan pressure to resign over ties to the paedophile.
In particular, the member of the House of Representatives, Thomas Massie, a Republican, called for Lutnick's resignation because of his links to the late convicted sex offender Epstein.
Lutnick always admitted to knowing Epstein, but said he broke off relations in 2005 after the former financier showed him and his wife the massage room in his New York home. The documents published by the Justice Department, however, show a different reality and closer and longer-lasting contacts than Lutnick admitted.
Lutnick's trade department stated on behalf of the secretary: 'This is nothing more than a failed attempt by the mainstream media to distract attention from the administration's achievements.
Massie's call for Lutnick's resignation came just over a week after the US Department of Justice released some 3 million investigative documents on Epstein in connection with the Transparency Act that the Kentucky congressman helped pass.
