The girls of Italian tennis are in the final in the doubles at the Internazionali di Roma: Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini defeated the American Caroline Dolehide and Desirae Krawczyk, the number 8 seed. A victory that to define clear-cut does not give the idea: 6-1, 6-2 in one hour of play. The match was a one-sided affair, with the Americans being foul, deconcentrated, and never able to trouble the Italians. On Sunday, the final will be played by the American Coco Gauff and New Zealand's Erin Routliffe (seeded pair number 3), who beat the Chinese Xinyu Wang and Saisai Zheng 6-3-7,6 in an hour and a half. Gauff, winner in singles at last year's US Open, is also strong in doubles, buoyed by her heavy hitting and considerable athletic ability. She normally plays as a partner with compatriot Jessica Pegula, who did not participate in Rome due to an injury, but the run with the doubles player Routliffe was equally effective.
For the Italian women's team it is the fourth paired final of their career after Melbourne in 2022, Monastir in 2023 and Linz last February: in the last two they have triumphed and they dream of repeating the same result in Rome (where, moreover, Errani won in 2012 with Roberta Vinci, and reached the final in the next two editions). "We believed in it all week and so did the public who supported us: see you on Sunday," said Errani on court at the end of the match, adding at the press conference, with satisfaction, that they had managed to "find the tactics to put our opponents in crisis: they are not a poor pair, they have achieved a lot this year, such as the final in Doha, and they are experienced doubles players anyway". Sunday's final at 1.30 pm.
