What should never be missing on a company car for daily use? The list of indispensable accessories is very long, starting with the mandatory Adas on all vehicles registered from July 2024. The list is long and includes automatic braking, lane keeping, attention monitoring and speed limit warning among other assistants. To these must be added adaptive cruise control and blind spot monitoring as 'essentials'.
Another item not to be forgotten is the vehicle lighting systems, with full LED headlights as a minimum. Even better is the option of LED matrix headlights, initially the preserve of premium models and now also available on competitively priced generalist models such as Opel.
Turning to life on board, being able to rely on effective and efficient infotainment is a sine qua non for those who spend many hours in the car. Here, there is a fairly marked division between those who use their smartphones exclusively and those who rely on on-board systems. In the former case, you have to opt for cars with Apple Car Play and Android Auto, preferably with a wireless connection and inductive charging plate, the latter suitable for generously sized devices and equipped with ventilation systems.
In the second scenario, one enters the world of in-vehicle entertainment systems, which are increasingly based on platforms such as Android Automotive, thanks to which one can easily access the Google world and its applications.
Among the cars designed for professional use is the latest generation Mercedes E-Class, with its MbUx Superscreen system featuring three screens between instrumentation in front of the driver, a generously sized central touch screen and an additional monitor in front of the passenger. Becoming a real office on four wheels, the technological equipment also includes a front video camera through which one can take part in Zoom conference calls. The German manufacturer is also working on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) so that the car learns which systems the occupants of the vehicle use repeatedly. Given the same circumstances, the aim is for the AI to automate these functions and create real daily routines.
