The shortage of drivers is now a problem and companies are gearing up to make the work more attractive.
This is also the case of Etra, a fully publicly-owned multi-utility operating for the management of the integrated water and waste service in the Brenta river basin, which extends from the Asiago Plateau to the Euganean Hills, including the Bassano area, the Upper Padua area and the Padua urban belt.
The project
.As part of its activities, Etra Spa benefit company has launched a vocational training project for apprentices and waste collection drivers that will enable selected participants to obtain the C licence and the related CQC Merci (driver qualification card for the transport of goods), necessary to drive Etra's waste collection vehicles, free of charge. The company will assume and bear the cost of the two necessary professional qualifications (C licence and CQC Merci), while offering an indefinite apprenticeship contract.
In this way, the multi-utility offers an opportunity to enter the world of work and acquire the necessary skills and qualifications for use in environmental services free of charge.
"Given the difficulty of finding drivers with a C licence and CQC qualification in the labour market," says Etra president Flavio Frasson, "the company has decided to develop them. The selection notice for this innovative project, which has never been done before, was published on the company website on 9 July 2025 and the deadline for submitting applications is 27 July 2025'. The requirements are: age between 18-29, B licence, secondary school leaving certificate, willingness to work shifts and outdoors, in winter and summer, motivation to work as part of a team and commitment to attend driving school.
